My Favorite At-Home Workouts
/Staying focused on fitness goals may not seem like a priority during the global pandemic, but working out is a wonderful way to reduce stress and keep your immune system strong. Here are a few of my favorite at-home workouts that keep you fit in the gym or while sheltering in place:
If you know me personally, I probably raved about this app to you long before gyms closed due to social distancing. The app is easy to customize, allowing you to choose not only the type of practice and skill level but even the amount of instruction offered and genre of music played (or no soundtrack at all, if you prefer). Each session is unique and you can remove positions if they are not part of your practice. I start every morning with at least 30 minutes of yoga and have a yearly subscription but the app has generously waived fees through July 1.
Cassey Ho, a.k.a. Blogilates, is an award-winning fitness instructor and one of the most adorable human beings on the planet. Her Pilates workouts will kick your butt but her upbeat personality will keep you motivated and coming back for more. Many of her workouts require no equipment, making them easy to complete in your own home. Check out her page for full body workouts in addition to targeted training — my personal favorite is this 25-minute “Butt Blaster.”
I know, I know, I am a late convert to this cult favorite, but if you’ve seen how incredible 61-year-old Tony Horton looks, you’ll jump on the bandwagon, too. My partner has the DVDs (yes, that’s how old this workout craze is) but right now, the program is available for a 14-day free trial. The 60-minute workouts are very challenging but you rarely need more than hand weights. Tony keeps the atmosphere light with corny jokes and makes you feel like you’re part of the team, even if you’re tuning in virtually.
How are you staying fit and focused on your health goals while sheltering in place?
